A new generation Intermodal system, with high frequency operation

The “Regional Express” Combined transport

RsR Cargo is positioning itself as a new player in the field of combined transport and piggybacking. Its universality and flexibility will give it a leading role.

It has disruptive technologies and new organizational approaches that are revolutionizing the transport of goods over 300 km, thus definitively solving the issue of its carbon footprint.

RsR Cargo is the only player in Europe which can implement the new T.E.R. paradigm of combined transport, which will make it possible to achieve the European Commission's objective of transferring 50% of road flows beyond 300 km to the massified modes by 2050.

Although RsR Cargo trains run over long distances, they make intermediate stops at low marginal cost, thus making it possible to irrigate the territories furthest from the major corridors.

The modular structure of the system gives it great flexibility of use, and makes it an efficient tool for fine territorial services, and at the same time an economical means of upgrading capillary lines. The low axle weight of the loaded RsR Cargo wagons (less than 17 t/axle) and its remarkable capacity to fit into the railway gauge open up unequalled prospects for revitalizing the territories.

RsR Cargo is based on the principles that have made the "Passenger" model so successful. This approach has proven to be the most efficient in terms of services provided and profitability.

Illustration of these principles

  • Minute" stop for trains in stations. High frequency means handling an intermodal train in 15 minutes, regardless of its length, whether for semi-trailers, maritime containers or swap bodies.

  • Open-access hubs for truck drivers, located on an adjacent track, with direct access to the main line, and of sufficient length to organize exchanges without rail shunting.

  • Reversible block trains, which are never reshuffled, except in exceptional cases.

  • A running agility equivalent to that of passenger trains. RsR Cargo trains have a power density of around 10 like Régional passengers trains, compared to 3 for conventional freight trains. This allows them to easily fit into the batteries of passenger trains during peak hours.

  • Trip preparation: the truck driver checks before leaving the customer site that the transport unit to be entrusted to the RsR Cargo network has its complete digital file and that it complies with the network accessibility conditions.

RsR Cargo is targeting a massive modal shift on a European scale.
This represents a reduction of 82 Mt of CO2 per year.
